Gomer W. ”Babe” Davies, 82, of Crescent, St. Clairsville, OH died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at Acuity Specialty Hospital, Bellaire, OH. He was born June 16, 1930 in McMechen, WV, a son of the late Gomer W. Davies, Sr. and Hilda A. (Warsinsky) Davies.

He retired after 40 years from the Martins Ferry Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. Gomer was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #38 both of Martins Ferry, OH and a charter member of the Pride of the Valley Barber Shop Chorus. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy.

Besides singing Gomer loved cutting grass, gardening and evening campfires, but his greatest love and pride was his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Louise Turvey, and a grandson Chad R. Davies.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years Carol A. (Albrecht) Davies, four sons; Mike (Sumako) Davies of Okinawa, Japan, John (Janie) Davies of Martins Ferry and Joe (Brenda) Davies and David (Vicki) Davies all of St. Clairsville, a daughter April Lynn Deaton of Colerain, OH, a sister Betty Lee Wilson of Massillon, OH, seven grandchildren; Christy, Erika, Erin, Joey, Rebecca, Andrew, and Allison, and three great grandchildren.

Friends will be received Wednesday 2-4 & 6-9 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, where services will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at 11:00 am, with Pastor John Cook and Rev. Philip Van Dam officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Barton V.F.D, P.O. Box 631, Barton, OH 43905 or St. John’s Lutheran Church, 40 N. 4th St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935.

Martins Ferry Fire Dept. will hold services Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.

Military honors will be presented at the funeral home, Thursday, at 10:45 am, by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion.
